I stuck close to a/c as much as I could today. It was a bear at 103. It occurred to me this is the kind of suffering DBT might be good for. So far it's not helping though.
I have always loved the cold -- the colder the better as far as I'm concerned. So this is about 100 degrees warmer than my preference. When I was a teenager, I heard a story about a POW who was forced to stand out in the cold with very few clothes on and how he used mind over matter to keep from suffering from the cold. I always thought that was so neat, and I've taken pride in my ability to withstand great cold cheerfully. I don't even own a coat, because I have no need.
I guess it's time to learn how to do that with heat. I'm not sure I can though. I think I've always had a high susceptibility to heat exhaustion and a high threshold for cold, so this will take a lot of mind over matter. But, boy if I could do it, it sure would make days like this more tolerable.
The good news is that, in sticking close to a/c, I got quite a bit done on this website. I love it! I learn, I feel like I accomplish something, and I have a blast being creative. It doesn't get much better than that.
It's supposed to be another hot one tomorrow, but not quite so bad. However, I'll be at work from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in an non-air-conditioned office. That will be a test. Thankfully, the boss has given us permission to go to the library or Commons to work if it gets too bad. We shall see...
